Here you are the second post dedicated to Greece.
This time, however, we are at Naxos. Always a Cycladic island but different from the others. If you are in the most famous Mykonos you can drop in here for a couple of days. Among the Cyclades, Naxos is perhaps my favourite island, not only because it has beautiful beaches, but mainly because it is less attractive of the best-known, Santorini and Mykonos, with a more natural and impressive alternation of sea and hills. Yes, because at the centre of the island there is a very characteristic hilly landscape and, on top, small villages.
The best known is Apirathos: cute, with small streets, terraces overlooking the valley and the streets are full of playing children and groups of old men sitting and smoking cigars, there just to chat and drink "ouzo" (anise liqueur ).
It happened that I had arrived there by chance many years ago. I had read about this little village on the lonley planet and MisterX and I reached it by motorbike (I remember a crazy cold on the way back) ... I liked it so much that last year I was by chance in Naxos and we came back but this time we had dinner in another restaurant ... Platanos Tavern.
We were impressed because it was delicious yet simple: tables arranged on the terrace or in the street under the sycamore tree (hence the name of the restaurant...sycamore tree=Platanos), simple dishes of traditional Greek cuisine and excellent grilled meat. We ordered classical Greek olives, a great "saganaki"( Greek fried cheese ), orta (their vegetables like turnips, boiled and seasoned with olive oil and lemon), mixed grilled meat and lots of beer! I must say that at the Platanos Tavern we ate the best "saganaki" and the best meat of the whole holiday .... it was cooked to perfection as well as being tasty.

If you fancy a quieter dinner, away from the hordes of tourists who flock to the island, you can take a leap here, I promise... you will not regret it. Let me know!
